Five rules that make every room easier

1. Use cartons strong enough for the item and keep each box at a safe, manageable weight.
2. Label the destination room, basic contents, and handling priority on more than one side.
3. Fill empty space so items do not shift, but do not overpack or force cartons closed.
4. Separate essentials, documents, medication, keys, and irreplaceable valuables.
5. Tell the estimator about fragile, oversized, dense, or unusual items before move day.

Kitchen

Pack seldom-used appliances and serving pieces first. Use small cartons for canned goods and heavy cookware. Wrap dishes vertically, fill empty space, and label fragile cartons on the top and multiple sides.

Bedrooms and closets

Build a first-night clothing set, then pack off-season items. Keep hardware with disassembled furniture in labeled bags. Wardrobe cartons can reduce handling for hanging clothes when included in the packing plan.

Living room

Photograph cable connections before disconnecting electronics. Use original boxes when practical, protect screens separately, and keep remotes, cords, and mounting hardware labeled by device.

Bathroom and medicine

Discard expired products and avoid packing liquids loosely with other belongings. Keep medication, toiletries, towels, and a shower curtain in the essentials kit that travels with you.

Garage, shed, and outdoor areas

Drain or prepare equipment as required, separate prohibited or hazardous materials, clean outdoor pieces, and identify dense toolboxes or machinery before the estimate.

Documents and valuables

Keep identification, closing or lease documents, jewelry, irreplaceable keepsakes, medications, keys, and payment methods with you rather than in the moving load.

Build the first-night kit

Include bedding, towels, toiletries, medications, chargers, a basic tool kit, paper products, cleaning supplies, snacks, pet supplies, children’s comfort items, a change of clothes, important documents, and anything needed before most boxes are opened.
